The Naturalist

Ajay Kumar Prajapat.

Founder and naturalist at Sariska Expeditions. Born around Sariska, with 13 years of naturalist work in Sariska Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan.

His Story

A life connected with Sariska.

I have been around Sariska since I was born, and I have spent 13 years doing naturalist work in Sariska Tiger Reserve. I chose Sariska and the Aravalli landscape because of their natural beauty, their rich wildlife and their peaceful surroundings. The mix of forest, hills and wildlife is what makes this place special, and worth protecting.

What I love most is that quiet beauty: the variety of wildlife and the Aravalli hills. Being here gives me a feeling of connection with nature, and it reminds me why our forests and wildlife must be protected.

I am especially interested in tigers, leopards, hyenas and jackals, and in the many birds and reptiles of Sariska. I also love the smaller details of the forest, from animal tracks to the sounds of birds, because they show how balanced this ecosystem is. Through the year I enjoy the changing colours of the forest with the seasons, and the peaceful sounds of nature.

How He Guides

Reading the forest, respecting the wildlife.

Ajay accompanies guests personally. Here is how he approaches an outing, in his own terms.

Planning each outing

He considers the weather, forest conditions, animal movements and the safety of guests, looks for signs of wildlife, and chooses routes that give a good opportunity to observe animals in their natural habitat without disturbing them.

What he hopes guests take away

An appreciation of nature, the chance to observe wildlife in its own habitat, and a deeper respect for forests and the balance of nature. Forests are the natural homes of wildlife, and every animal plays a part in that balance.

For first-time visitors

Be patient, enjoy the Aravalli hills, follow forest rules and respect nature. Every safari is a unique experience, even on a day you don't see a tiger. Sightings are never guaranteed.

Who He Guides

Guests, languages and the wider landscape.

Guests he enjoys taking out

First-time wildlife travellers, families, photographers, birdwatchers and serious wildlife enthusiasts, as well as international travellers, children and students. His aim is to make every safari informative, enjoyable and memorable.

More than a tiger

For Ajay, Sariska is about connecting with nature, discovering local traditions and appreciating the whole landscape, not just looking for a tiger. See Discover Sariska and Experiences.
